Nominated pharmacies

You can usually collect your prescription two working days after ordering it.

You can choose a pharmacy to collect it for you. This is called nominating a pharmacy, and you can change it at any time.

If you haven’t nominated one, your prescription will be left at our front desk for collection.

Pharmacy First

If you have a minor illness, a pharmacy is often the first place to go. You don’t usually need an appointment, and you can go to any pharmacy. The community pharmacist can give advice, and a prescription if you need one, through the Pharmacy First service.

Pharmacists can help with conditions including acne, allergies and hay fever, athlete’s foot, backache, a blocked or runny nose, cold sores, constipation, cough, simple cystitis (women aged 16 to 65), diarrhoea, earache, eczema, emergency contraception, haemorrhoids, head lice, headache, impetigo, indigestion, mouth ulcers, period pain, stopping smoking, sore throat, threadworms, thrush, verrucas and warts.

Many pharmacies open late and at weekends, and most have a private room where you can talk to the pharmacist. Find a pharmacy.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a review from time to time. We may limit the number of repeats you can order until we have spoken with you.

You can request a medication review at anytime. This is best done as a routine GP appointment, or a routine appointment with one of the practice pharmacists. You can request this through the usual appointment system.

What to do with old medicines

Take them back to the pharmacy you got them from.

Don’t put them in your household bin or flush them down the toilet.

Unopened medicines can sometimes be recycled.
